IWC, or the International Watch Company, was founded in 1868 by American watchmaker and entrepreneur Florentine Ariosto Jones. Rather unusually for a Swiss watchmaker, Jones established his factory in Schaffhausen, in the German-speaking part of Switzerland, rather than in the traditional watchmaking centres of the Jura.
His idea was ambitious: to combine American manufacturing methods and industrial efficiency with Swiss watchmaking expertise. Schaffhausen was also an attractive location thanks to the hydroelectric power of the Rhine River, which could be used to drive machinery.
During the early 20th century, IWC built a strong reputation for robust, technically minded watches, becoming particularly associated with precision engineering, legibility and practical complications rather than purely decorative watchmaking.

This quirky IWC item is a complete poker set, including a poker chip case, a full set of poker chips, a dealer chip and playing cards—in short, everything you need to deal the cards, place your bets and start a game of poker.
Everything is neatly tucked away in a substantial black wooden case measuring 23 × 33 cm. The set is new and unused, while the case shows some minor signs of storage wear.
